A useful method is to see what is growing well in neighbors' yards as they will probably enjoy similar soil types and conditions, and you can also get an idea of how it might look in your garden setting. Some have attractive flowers and/or berries to brighten or accent a landscape feature or attract wildlife. Ground covers are very versatile.
