January 15, 2022 by Jeff Project Zomboid is a zombie survival RPG with very deep mechanics. Fitness is hard to level. High Thirst (water is trivial unless you have month-long drought) Underweight (just gorge yourself on perishable food before the power goes out) Hemophobic (just wash your clothes) Smoker (this is a positive trait disguised as a negative one) Prone to Illness (free points; just don't sit out in the rain naked for hours) Why the hell did i think writing this was a good idea this took like an hour fuck AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Don't really need it if you have a profession that gives maintenance though. Foraging will keep you well fed thru summer and trapping will keep you fed thru winter. 1- More harm than good, either because it costs too many points, doesnt give enough for what it is, or because it may get you killed. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast, The subreddit for Project Zomboid. Overweight stops you from taking fitness bonuses, but underweight reduces your fitness by one. The ones that can be remedied are, from the top of my head: Very Underweight, Underweight, Overweight, Obese - all weight ones can be managed through nutrition intake. I love claustrophobic. I went with light eater just because I figured it'd be fewer distractions, but as a result I've found I have to overeat anyway to maintain calories. Otherwise, 5 free points. YouTuber Retanaru also posted a great video breaking down some of the best traits to use that you can see here. But that being said, if you want a character that is going to survive for a very long time, this doesnt really matter. It's entirely unnecessary. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Agoraphobic is probably the worst of the two, but it is great when paired with adrenaline junkie. It helps peel away some of them from larger groups. Maybe 5/5 Simply because it's the only trait that gives nimble. Each trait takes a certain amount of points away from the player's total of points, so they will also need to select negative traits to balance trait point count. Luckily this is manageable as long as you have a steady supply of cigarettes. Kind of a niche case but worth mentioning. ._2Gt13AX94UlLxkluAMsZqP{background-position:50%;background-repeat:no-repeat;background-size:contain;position:relative;display:inline-block} ._2a172ppKObqWfRHr8eWBKV{-ms-flex-negative:0;flex-shrink:0;margin-right:8px}._39-woRduNuowN7G4JTW4I8{margin-top:12px}._136QdRzXkGKNtSQ-h1fUru{display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;margin:8px 0;width:100%}.r51dfG6q3N-4exmkjHQg_{font-size:10px;font-weight:700;letter-spacing:.5px;line-height:12px;text-transform:uppercase;-ms-flex-pack:justify;justify-content:space-between;-ms-flex-align:center;align-items:center}.r51dfG6q3N-4exmkjHQg_,._2BnLYNBALzjH6p_ollJ-RF{display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex}._2BnLYNBALzjH6p_ollJ-RF{margin-left:auto}._1-25VxiIsZFVU88qFh-T8p{padding:0}._2nxyf8XcTi2UZsUInEAcPs._2nxyf8XcTi2UZsUInEAcPs{color:var(--newCommunityTheme-widgetColors-sidebarWidgetTextColor)} Every traits related to weight and fitness/strenght can evolve/go away. Positive Traits: Speed Demon 1/5 Waste of one point. Useful for stealth, but you can always just stop moving to avoid making sound. 25% slower xp gain with weapons. I play with darker nights so Cat Eyes is one that I always take. If you're an experienced driver with a PC that can run the game well you are simply NEVER going to die to Speed Demon, and the increase in acceleration speeds up gameplay; particularly when it comes to towing. This perk isnt working at all as of the time im writing this, so its free points. This increases how far you can "see" behind your character and is enough of a buff that you can fast-forward and still react to zombies that attack from behind. Positive traits are available if you have some extra points spare to use before jumping into the game. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. Kinda boring to sit through, though. It's a pretty genuine tradeoff, not to mention it's annoying to listen to most game sounds muffled. Way more than exercise. ._1x9diBHPBP-hL1JiwUwJ5J{font-size:14px;font-weight:500;line-height:18px;color:#ff585b;padding-left:3px;padding-right:24px}._2B0OHMLKb9TXNdd9g5Ere-,._1xKxnscCn2PjBiXhorZef4{height:16px;padding-right:4px;vertical-align:top}.icon._1LLqoNXrOsaIkMtOuTBmO5{height:20px;vertical-align:middle;padding-right:8px}.QB2Yrr8uihZVRhvwrKuMS{height:18px;padding-right:8px;vertical-align:top}._3w_KK8BUvCMkCPWZVsZQn0{font-size:14px;font-weight:500;line-height:18px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon)}._3w_KK8BUvCMkCPWZVsZQn0 ._1LLqoNXrOsaIkMtOuTBmO5,._3w_KK8BUvCMkCPWZVsZQn0 ._2B0OHMLKb9TXNdd9g5Ere-,._3w_KK8BUvCMkCPWZVsZQn0 ._1xKxnscCn2PjBiXhorZef4,._3w_KK8BUvCMkCPWZVsZQn0 .QB2Yrr8uihZVRhvwrKuMS{fill:var(--newCommunityTheme-actionIcon)} New players are going to be better off with thick-skinned as it makes the game just a little bit more forgiving. Some really great points there, I hadn't realised any of that even after playing with some of these skills for a couple hundred hours lol. So, here is the list of all Positive Traits in Project Zomboid ranked from best to worst: Fast Learner . In a game where a scratch from a zombie can be life or death, preventing injury altogether is great. If you manage to level up your fitness level a couple of points you wont see the effect of these traits at all. Under the hood . You call it a "waste of points" yet for some reason still give it a 2. It's something experienced players could consider, but even then I think it's mostly viable for longer range weapons like spears and long blunt, since I think less blood gets on the character. Impacts combat a lot less than you'd think, especially since your character panics no matter what when they see a horde early-game. I'd put Speed Demon at 2. The XP boost to nimble is great, as it levels extremely slowly on its own. ._1EPynDYoibfs7nDggdH7Gq{margin-bottom:8px;position:relative}._1EPynDYoibfs7nDggdH7Gq._3-0c12FCnHoLz34dQVveax{max-height:63px;overflow:hidden}._1zPvgKHteTOub9dKkvrOl4{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;line-height:21px;font-weight:400;word-wrap:break-word}._1dp4_svQVkkuV143AIEKsf{-ms-flex-align:baseline;align-items:baseline;background-color:var(--newCommunityTheme-body);bottom:-2px;display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex;-ms-flex-flow:row nowrap;flex-flow:row nowrap;padding-left:2px;position:absolute;right:-8px}._5VBcBVybCfosCzMJlXzC3{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;font-weight:400;line-height:21px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-bodyText)}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI{position:relative;background-color:0;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaText);fill:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaText);border:0;padding:0 8px}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:before{content:"";position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border-radius:9999px;background:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaText);opacity:0}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:hover:before{opacity:.08}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:focus{outline:none}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:focus:before{opacity:.16}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI._2Z_0gYdq8Wr3FulRLZXC3e:before,._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:active:before{opacity:.24}._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI:disabled,._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI[data-disabled],._3YNtuKT-Is6XUBvdluRTyI[disabled]{cursor:not-allowed;filter:grayscale(1);background:none;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaTextAlpha50);fill:var(--newCommunityTheme-metaTextAlpha50)}._2ZTVnRPqdyKo1dA7Q7i4EL{transition:all .1s linear 0s}.k51Bu_pyEfHQF6AAhaKfS{transition:none}._2qi_L6gKnhyJ0ZxPmwbDFK{transition:all .1s linear 0s;display:block;background-color:var(--newCommunityTheme-field);border-radius:4px;padding:8px;margin-bottom:12px;margin-top:8px;border:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-canvas);cursor:pointer}._2qi_L6gKnhyJ0ZxPmwbDFK:focus{outline:none}._2qi_L6gKnhyJ0ZxPmwbDFK:hover{border:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-button)}._2qi_L6gKnhyJ0ZxPmwbDFK._3GG6tRGPPJiejLqt2AZfh4{transition:none;border:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-button)}.IzSmZckfdQu5YP9qCsdWO{cursor:pointer;transition:all .1s linear 0s}.IzSmZckfdQu5YP9qCsdWO ._1EPynDYoibfs7nDggdH7Gq{border:1px solid transparent;border-radius:4px;transition:all .1s linear 0s}.IzSmZckfdQu5YP9qCsdWO:hover ._1EPynDYoibfs7nDggdH7Gq{border:1px solid var(--newCommunityTheme-button);padding:4px}._1YvJWALkJ8iKZxUU53TeNO{font-size:12px;font-weight:700;line-height:16px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-button)}._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7{display:-ms-flexbox;display:flex}._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7 ._3jyKpErOrdUDMh0RFq5V6f{-ms-flex:100%;flex:100%}._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7 .dqhlvajEe-qyxij0jNsi0{color:var(--newCommunityTheme-button)}._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7 ._12nHw-MGuz_r1dQx5YPM2v,._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7 .dqhlvajEe-qyxij0jNsi0{font-size:12px;font-weight:700;line-height:16px;cursor:pointer;-ms-flex-item-align:end;align-self:flex-end;-webkit-user-select:none;-ms-user-select:none;user-select:none}._3adDzm8E3q64yWtEcs5XU7 ._12nHw-MGuz_r1dQx5YPM2v{color:var(--newCommunityTheme-button);margin-right:8px;color:var(--newCommunityTheme-errorText)}._3zTJ9t4vNwm1NrIaZ35NS6{font-family:Noto Sans,Arial,sans-serif;font-size:14px;line-height:21px;font-weight:400;word-wrap:break-word;width:100%;padding:0;border:none;background-color:transparent;resize:none;outline:none;cursor:pointer;color:var(--newRedditTheme-bodyText)}._2JIiUcAdp9rIhjEbIjcuQ-{resize:none;cursor:auto}._2I2LpaEhGCzQ9inJMwliNO,._42Nh7O6pFcqnA6OZd3bOK{display:inline-block;margin-left:4px;vertical-align:middle}._42Nh7O6pFcqnA6OZd3bOK{fill:var(--newCommunityTheme-button);color:var(--newCommunityTheme-button);height:16px;width:16px;margin-bottom:2px} One tiny mistake and the character youve had for a few in-games weeks/months is gone and so are your skills. Negative Trait 1: High Thirst Points Redeemed: 6 Description: Needs more water to survive Starting the list off with one of my favorite negative perks it is time to talk about high thirst. Negative traits give you points back, which you'll need if your occupation puts you in the negative. More annoying than anything, gives you less time in the day. Some traits in Project Zomboid can't be picked at the same time, however, you can pick both Underweight and Fit, which seem to cancel each other out. S-Tier. I would put Keen Hearing way higher. Never found a lack of food to be an issue personally. Handy: 5/5 literally the only trait to give Maintenance, AND the only trait to give Carpentry. Yes thats right. These skills suck as short blunt and spear will take longer to gain levels in. The only opinion I disagree with is thin-skinned. Just carry 2 filled bottles around with you and you wont notice this trait. Cannot take Wakeful, and also has the opposite effect of Wakeful. High Thirst is easily fixed with a bottle of water. Smoker means that the longer your character goes without smoking the more gradually unhappy they will get. Feeble and Weak: 3/5 strength is much easier to level than Fitness, and is also less important. Both fitness and strength are very hard to level up. https://discord.gg/theindiestone, Press J to jump to the feed. Increases fuel consumption by 100%. Brave Pacifist, despite what it says, only makes you get 30% less experience with weapons. It really does much of the same as Fast Reader when it comes to saving time, and you rated that a 2. Large zed groups can be pulled outside, sleeping turned off makes sleep a non-issue, and you actually get the benefit of never getting boredom. First aid is useless. If you gain enough weight, you won't be "underweight" anymore ; if you lvl up your strenght skill enough, you'll go from "weak" to "feeble", or from "feeble" to nothing (5 fitness) and so on. This will get you killed. Before posting try the sledgehammer. Strong, Thick Skinned, Outdoorsman Keen Hearing traits fall under positive traits. Again you probably don't know how detection works in the game. That fire officer + underweight combo is pretty awesome. inconspicuous actually sucks. Reduces sound. I wouldn't say its a must have, but if you have 6 points to spare its worth considering. In addition to slow reader and slow learner, it looks like pacifist is just an XP penalty for weapons, so it could be taken alongside them if you're willing to put up with all that extra grind. And when You have 9 fitness it's not going to cause any problems, so probably even 4/5 if you have 9 fitness. Asthmatic: 2/5 very viable since it doesn't actually reduce Fitness, which is what decides how sleepy you get and how fast you attack. When coupled with Outdoorsman which removes the negative side-effects of weather you can make a pretty good character for living off the grid. Maybe not deadly, but you will attract a few more zombies. More experienced players may find the points spent better elsewhere instead. For more information, please see our
